What were they thinking? Wacky US baby names inspired by Game of Thrones

THERE was no boy named Sue among the bubs born in the US last year — but there were 18 boys named Isabella.

The 2013 list of US baby names, recently released by American officials, revealed a trend of parents crossing the traditional gender line when naming their kids, with 704 girls given the name Logan, 16 Tucker and, bizarrely, 14 Andrew.

Character names from the popular fantasy show Game of Thrones also inspired hundreds of parents, with 1135 Aryas, 241 Khaleesis, 67 Daeneryses and 15 Theons born.

What do you think about the choice of baby names? Have your say below.

Parents continued to get creative with spelling by putting modern twists on traditional names — for the more than 5000 boys (and six girls) named Zachary, there were also five each of Zaccari, Zacharey, Zackarie, Zacorey and Zacorie.

Others ditched the dictionary completely, with 16 girls named Jurney, 15 Beautifull and five Cymphony.

Some drew inspiration from the alphabet, with 16 girls christened Abcde.

Others looked to everyday objects to name their bundles of joy — six boys were named Charger, 44 Cross and five Subaru, while nine girls were called Pistol.

Indecisive parents combined two names, with 22 Johndavids, 10 Ethanjames and 16 Audreyannas born.

Monikers traditionally left for surnames were also a popular choice — 121 boys were named Smith and 62 Robinson, while 278 girls were called Campbell.

My biggest concern is – Why isn’t anyone calling their kid Hodor?! Sheesh.
